Í have a little whiteboard right beside my workstation. On it, I write down my outstanding tasks (personal and professional)—the things I need to do, the things I’m working on, and sometimes even the things I know I’ll have to tackle in the weeks and months ahead. As I complete each task, I put a tick beside it. And when most of the tasks are done, I erase the board and start again.
Today, I stood before that board and did just that.
Old tasks erased.
New tasks written.
Some of the new tasks are familiar, and I feel confident about them. Others are new, and a few already feel overwhelming.
But standing there, I found myself thinking about all the things that once overwhelmed me. The ethics application I was anxious about. Recruiting participants for a study. Organising a workshop for policymakers and stakeholders. Starting a weekly radio programme and coming up with a script for the programme each new week. Putting together a particular presentation when I wasn’t sure how it would all come together.
At the time, they felt like mountains.
Yet somehow, they all got done.
One step at a time.
Looking back, I realise I didn’t get through those moments because I had everything figured out. I got through them because I leaned on God. He helped me take one step, then another, and another. And eventually, those things that once made me anxious became nothing more than little ticks on my whiteboard.
So, as I look at this new list today, I choose not to be overwhelmed by it. I choose to remember how God has helped me in the past.
I may not know exactly how every task on this new list will get done. I may not even know where to begin with some of them.
But I know who I can depend on.
He has never failed me before, and He won’t fail me now.
One task at a time.
One day at a time.
One step at a time.
New month. New challenges. Same faithful God. 🙏🏽
